Waking up to a new season

Cold February mornings with a frost still on the ground but the beginnings of real warmth in the sun. Days like today herald the approaching start of a new year in our awareness of the crops growing in the fields around us. Of course, there is plenty going on right now - but it is harder to get excited about emerging cereals than it is when they stand tall and their heads of grain begin to unfurl in the early summer sun. Of course, right now, the message is that there will be a new harvest - let's hope it's a good one.
